Quaich

The 2006 Quaich golf matches will be played in Scotland on May 26 and 27 between two teams of friends --- eights Scots and eight Americans. Following the classic Ryder Cup format, the Quaich matches are all about friendship, questionable golf, and national pride.

SCOTLAND WINS QUAICH!

Team Scotland led from the beginning in the 2006 Quaich competition and, despite a furious rally by Team USA on Saturday, held on to win the coveted Quaich. Final Score - Scotland 14, USA 10 points.

The Quaich was handed over to a deserving Scottish team at the Awards Dinner tonight in St. Andrews.

Team Scotland Holds On to Win Quaich - Afternoon Singles

Team Scotland dug deep to overcome exhaustion and a spirited US comeback effort to win the Quaich. The two teams split the eight singles matches over the Devlin course at St. Andrews Bay (4 points each), thereby giving Scotland a 14-10 overall win.

Team USA Starts Comeback Attempt With Strong Morning Fourball at St. Andrews Bay

Overcoming howling winds, Team USA wins 3 of 4 fourball matches on Saturday morning at the Torrance Course at St. Andrews Bay. Scotland's lead is 10 - 6 with only the afternoon indivdual match play left.

Scotland Adds to Lead at Kingsbarns - Afternoon Fourball


Team Scotland increased their overall lead with a 3 - 1 beating of Team USA in the afternoon fourball. The skies were clearing by Friday night, but the forecast was grim for Team USA, which was behind 9 - 3 after the first day of competition.



Scotland Reigns at Crail - Morning Individual Match Play

The Scottish Team leveraged the worst weather conditions in Quaich history to take an early lead at Crail. The Americans could never find their rhythm in the high winds and unrelenting rain. After the morning individual match play, Scotland led 6 - 2.

Opening Singles Matches Announced!


Captains MacCallum and Moreland announced the match-ups for the opening Singles Match Play round to be played over Lundin Links in Fife. These matches are critical as no team has ever won the Quaich when trailing after the opening round.
